Talk Show - These People - EP Review

With barely a handful of songs under their belt South London outfit Talk Show have finally put out their debut EP 'These People' through Council Records. In just over 12 minutes Talk Show really put their cards on the table and show us what they're made of, a short but indulging collection of post-punk, goth and darkwave inspired tunes sold by a loud and proud mancunian voice and a plethora of noises behind this is a tale of love, despair and observation of me, you and everyone else. Opening the tracklist with single 'Stress' throws nothing but post-punk straight in your face in the form of a heart on your sleeve kinda song full of attitude making a heafty start to the bands first collection. 'Atomica' , the EPs second number is where the angry punk in them really comes out to play though, full of snarling vocals, deep basslines and a page of lyrics that wouldn't go amiss at Manchester's classic Free Trade Hall. Next up 'Banshee' the fi

Squid - Sludge - Single Review

Feeling cooped up at home these days? Eagar to get back out exploring? Well lucky for you the experimental rock wizards in Squid have bought us all tickets for a journey through their newest single 'Sludge' . Being the group's first release in just over a year, they've been dragging their heels and keeping up lapped up waiting for some more funk driven noises and boy have they delivered. Clocking in at 5 minutes on the dot this eccentric number is sure to drag you in deep, written 'kinda about self isolation (before the government enforced it)' according to the guys themselves, its full of jazzy strings and psyched out synths pulling only the best parts of punk, funk and prog this has to go forward as one of the most enticing tracks of 2020 so far. Having just signed to London grown indie label Warp Records who host musicians like Aphex Twin and Brian Eno, they've certainly kicked straight through and made their place on the roster known. Think 90's Ca

Life - Switching On - Single Review

'Switching On' is Life s'  first breath after their enormous sophomore album 'A Picture Of Good Health' and you might be thinking what can this lot offer after such a solid release, well listen to this song. A surprisingly electronic inspired vibe dominates this track, full of intense synthy twangs of the guitar built into a crescendo these hectic hullensains are simply known for by now bringing whispers to wrath to ringing in your ears by the final verse. This noisey groove filled anthem is a reflective view of Lifes journey as a band according to lead vocalist Mez Green, saying they're in such exciting times musically with so many fresh perspectives which only means more loud, exciting, experimental tunes for us to come.

Hotel Lux - Eddie's Gaff - Single Review

Portsmouth raised but South London based  Hotel Lux give us a second peak at their forthcoming EP 'Barstool Preaching' with their nostalgic themed single 'Eddie's Gaff' . This rhythmic number is a tale of waking up hanging out your head and looking back at last nights antics with the singles artwork being nothing more than a tip of the trilby to Michalangelou just in some geezers gaff. Following on from 'Tabloid Newspaper' which dropped last year mic man Lewis Duffin described it as 'simpler times' in 'the earlier days of south London' and it certainly carries the bands earlier glooming sounds but swings right through to their newer more ardent direction leaving us more than ready for the full EP drop next month. 'Barstool Preaching' is released on April 24th via Nice Swan Records.

Wallflower announce debut album 'Teach Yourself To Swim'.

In the long awaited announcement London Alt Rockers Wallflower have dropped their first new music for nearly 2 years, alongside the news that the bands debut full length album ' Teach Yourself To Swim ' will find its release on June 5th. Having 3 EPs under their belt the emo rooted 5 piece gave us a taste of the new era with their first single from it ' Hungry Eyes '. One of the heaviest songs the bands written to date the four and a half minute track tackles a more political than personal front touching on deception and indifference, such heavy hitting topics go hand in hand with a strong lead guitar and impressive set of lungs behind the mic through all the in your face choruses right till the wallowing tender last verse showing off a spectical of vocal abilities proving the wait for new music has definitly been worth it from these guys. 'Hungry Eyes' is out now. 'Teach Yourself To Swim' the full debut album will be self released on June 5th.
