Citizen - London - Review

After being announced for Leeds hardcore festival, Outbreak Fest, Citizen fans roared for more UK dates only to be treated to an exclusive headline show at London's legendary Moth Club, a small, sweaty, glitter bound bar in trendy old Hackney.
MOTH shimmering in sequins from the back wall above a stage even smaller than the toilets, signified the glow in the room as the Michigan based 5 piece took to stage to play a concluding set in the English capital before returning home for 'a very long time', this is all the crowd needed to hear to know what was expected of the night. A sea of beers held high getting bowled down by crowd surfers to every single chorus sung spat the bands energy straight back at them. Throughout a heavy packed set spanning across all of their albums, emo anthems 'Sleep' and 'Summer' were chanted back word for word so loud you could hear the crowds teenage angst hiding in the back of their throats. With fans practically queuing up to stage dive during the heavier songs of the night Kerekes (vocals) hardcore side was prominent as he screamed into the mic while avoiding the array of flying legs filling the space above the mosh pit. The night ended with a bittersweet feel in the air as the band rehashed that they wouldn't be crossing the pond again for a considerable amount of time, still, they stood with smiles seen clearly from the back of the room thanking the fans for their time before waving goodbye for what could be a while.
