WALLFLAGs Fiver the year (2019)

1. Joji - Sanctuary

WALLFLAGs top song of 2019 goes to lo-fi R&B sensation Joji with his single Sanctury. If you haven't heard of this fast rising rapper maybe you'll know him under his previous aliases Pink Guy or Filthy Frank. That's right after officially retiring his popular youtube comedy characters in 2017 George Miller set out to become one of the most prominent up and coming R&B musicians of recent times and hes managed just that. Releasing 1 EP and 1 full length album, which made it to No.1 on Billboards top 100, Joji is right where he wants to be. Being his only solo release of 2019 Sanctuary is a very euphoric feeling ballad full of nothing but love, produced so simply by Joji himself we're left with some fantastic instrumental pieces and even more beautiful vocals, particularly his newly found and wonderfully pulled off falsetto range spread throughout the whole song. If a song was ever needed to declare ones love it surely has to be this, such unhinged emotion flows through every second of this release making your heart flutter at the thought of whoever it was written for, giving just another reason why it's taken the top spot of 2019 (because who doesn't love a good love song?).

2. Life - Bum Hour

Just missing out of the top spot of 2019 is the wonderfully rhythmic Bum Hour by true Hullensians Life. This noisy 4 piece and known for their loud, energetic and sometimes even politic tunes but this one rolls in with a beat to get get your whole body grooving along with it. A beautifully simple snare and bass duo has your feet already tapping away to bring this song to life when the elegant set of vocals introduce us to the lyrics, as the rhythm changes 'I just wanna lie and sleep in' rings through the chorus being something all of us can relate to. Coming from the bands summer release 'A Picture of Good Health' this number tells the story of not being at ease on your own but upon your first hearing it'll have you ordering a round a beers, swinging yours hips and jumping around like everyone's your best mate, a truly stunning effort from a magnificently passionate band.

3. Bring me the horizon ft. Dani Filth - Wonderful Life

The heaviest song on this years list goes to the Sheffield bred legends Bring me the horizon with a little help from metal icon Dani Filth. On the bands (not so heavy) 6th full length studio album Wonderful Life shed a little light on the bands pre 2013 sound while surrounded by their newer, softer style. Lathered with a selection of deep riffs, heavy bass tones and the occasional '08 roar' this song proves these guys still have a bit of loud in their roots. Topped off with the immense feature of Mr. Filths darkly suave verse taking us to a recently unfamiliar, mosh pit worthy drop this is a fantastic effort to feed their longtime fanbase that's been hungry for the heavy.

4. Sports Team - M5

In at No.4 is the rowdy cambridge based 6 piece Sports Team playing their indie shout-along anthem M5. With motermouth Alex Rice on the mic, this song can't help but ring through your head for days after every listen. A plethora of wonderfully curious twangs and strums competing with some fantastically timed synthetic keys make the car themed sound effects for this suave tune, the inbetween filled in with a splash of in your face choruses, a directly spoken verse and an array of gang vocals make your hips swing and your ears ring time and time again.

5. Lil Peep ft Lil Tracy - Walk away as the door slams (Acoustic)

This acoustic rendition of an originally soundcloud released Lil Peep song plays as the closing track on the late rappers second posthumous album Everybody's Everything. The unfamiliar sound of a softer, innocent voice paired only with a simple seemingly upbeat strum of the acoustic gives a beautifully peaceful side to the late musician.
'Club lights, we fight every night, baby I don't wanna do that', starts this heart-tugging anthem twisting love with death, the songs title rings through the chorus leading to Peeps very close friend and common collaborator Lil Tracys' verse bringing the more notable rap flow to the song, which can't help but roar the mass of talent and emotions this young star had.
