Tom Weaver//Casey

My first few questions were about the bands excessive touring schedule, specifically being their spot at download festival, asking how it felt to play one of the biggest rock festivals in the world, surprisingly he told me he was trying not to think about that at the moment because he suffers quite bad stage fright still even when playing headline club shows then joked that “the thought of a show that size would probably ruin [him]” but did say it’s an absolute honour to be invited along and that it will be comforting to see lots of friends on the bill.
Carrying on the subject of tours I wanted to know how he felt about going on out on a European tour with the incredible Being as an Ocean, Thy Art is Murder and Miss May I soon, and he described it as “interesting” as they’ve been on tour with BAAO before so they know the guys quite well which will be good for them to have some friendly faces around, then went on the say that the tour package itself is “definitely the most diverse they’ve played” and that really they’ll just take it as it comes and will have to see how the crowd reacts to them and learn from it.
The last question for the touring cycle I had was more to do with them personally and if they had any upcoming plans, considering they’d recently headlined a tour in support of their latest album, which he revealed to me that they are looking at doing a headlining or co-headlining tour towards the end of the year also saying that they do have an idea of who they want to tour with and where they want to go but they’ll just “just have to wait if the stars align and allow it all to happen”.
Then moving away from music directly I wanted to speak about the album art for their latest record and the fact since its release many fans have got it tattooed, so I asked him what it must feel like as an artist to know that people are permanently inking their bodies with their art, he told me that even before the record he’d known about a couple of Casey tattoos floating around online which he described as “mind blowing”, then after ‘Love is Not Enough’ was revealed and the artwork released they’ve seen so many people get the design on them and tattoo artists recreate it as well which has been incredible. He then told me that he’s got the art work tattooed on his arm himself in homage to one of his best friends who drew up the design and also due to the importance of the album to him. He finished with saying that he has spoken to his friend who knows about fans tattoos and is so flattered that people are using her artwork to show their commitment.
Finally then I asked something completely random, if Casey could cover an entire album from start to finish what would it be and why, Tom said his own choice would be ‘Louder Now by Taking Back Sunday’ because “there are just so many anthems on that album” and because he thinks in its own way it’s an incredibly emotional record.
Casey released their latest album Love Is Not Enough late last year and is available now, they play the Saturday of Download Festival in June.
